DIY Crib Bed Skirt Modification

DIY Crib Bed Skirt Modification
When I found out I was pregnant one of the first things I wanted to do was design and decorate a room for this new little baby. I was obsessed with bedding in particular and scrolled through endless Etsy shops and online baby stores to find what I deemed the perfect crib bedding. Once I found out I was having Little Dude (and not a little princess...) my ruffled bed skirts were all tossed aside and the re-design had to begin. I had absolutely no preference between having a baby boy or a baby girl, but the baby girl bedding out there is just SO pretty!!

Robert Mondavi Private Selection

Name: Robert Mondavi Private Selection
Varietal: Pinot Grigio
Country: California, USA
Vintage: 2014

Why did I decide to try this wine? The Mr. doesn't typically do the wine shopping, but he decide to give it a whirl. He bought two bottles hoping they were ones we had never tried before (his memory is not the best when it comes to this stuff...). It worked out in his favour because we hadn't tried either! Sound familiar? That's because I wrote about the first bottle we tried already and now, this is the second bottle from the same shopping trip.

Would I prefer one glass or indulge in the bottle? Bottle. With little explanation required... it was just really good, but to top it off this picture featured on their Instagram page makes me say bottle even more. You can't go wrong with wine and cinnamon rolls!

What shoes would I wear drinking this wine? Pumps with a floral pattern.

How would I describe the wine? This wine had a delightful garden smell to it. Like the really pretty flower garden smell... you know the one... picture fountains, colourful flowers everywhere, vines growing up the garden walls and stone paths throughout. The taste was equally delightful; t was crisp and refreshing but dry at the same time with hints of citrus.

Happy National Wine Day all!

Our First Staycation {Miramichi, NB}

Our First Staycation {Miramichi, NB}

When the Mr. and I started narrowing down the places to test out for our first staycation Miramichi, NB kept shooting to the top of the list. And so, we didn't try to swim against the current and we went to Miramichi!

Miramichi is such a great place for a staycation... and a vacation for that matter! For those us who reside in northern New Brunswick, Miramichi is a southern retreat without straying too far from home, while for those living in larger centers in the southern part of New Brunswick, PEI or Nova Scotia it is a great getaway location with city amenities and country charm.

We arrived Friday evening in time to stop by NB Liquor to check out the wine selection, check into our hotel (Rodd Miramichi River) and get prettied up for a nice dinner at Restaurant 1809.

Dinner was good, but i have to admit as we sat in the restaurant looking out the window at the Centennial Bridge our conversation turned to San Francisco. A few vacations ago we ate a restaurant called Water Bar - the restaurant, like this one overlooks the water and a bridge...only the Bay Bridge in San Francisco has lights on it that seemingly go to music. I'm not sure if this is possible but wouldn't this be a "WOW" factor to add to the already lovely scenery in Miramichi?!

We got up bright and early on Saturday, not as early as this fisherman, but early enough to stop by the Water Street Farmer's Market to admire all the local talent and handy-work before heading to Mill Cove Coffee on the Newcastle side of town (the north side of the river for those who are not familiar with the local lingo)

I ordered a maple latte which was tasty, but quite sweet - if you don't love maple I would suggest trying the honey or vanilla options instead as the maple flavour is quite strong.

Unfortunately it rained for the rest of the weekend in Miramichi so we missed out on a few activities I had planned, such as hiking through French Fort Cove and visiting Ritchie Wharf Park. The good news is, rainy weather is a perfect excuse to shop (not that I needed one...).

Luckily I had prepared for the possible bad weather before we left home and contacted the man who would know exactly how to guide us. His Worship, Mayor Adam Lordon went to university with the Mr. and I and graciously gave us a list of things to do, places to see and where to eat.

We went to all of the locations, shops and restaurants and were very impressed by each spot. The shops had a very good variety of home decor, unique children's toys, furniture and more. I was even fortunate to find the dessert bowls to match my dishes at the pharmacy/home decor store downtown near Mill Cove Coffee! I really want to come back to Miramichi another time and do one of the classes at Crackle and Teal - I love everything in the store and love the idea of learning how to paint furniture correctly, or learning how to create something I could give as a gift or have in my home.

Saturday night we went to O'Donaghue's early enough to have dinner and get a table before the crowd started to arrive for the live music, but late enough the miss the "actual dinner" crowd. Our plan worked out perfectly and we arrived (after stopping for a rainy selfie on the way) just as another table was leaving.

The pub had a great atmosphere and was the perfect place to watch the third period of the hockey game, get a nice cold beer and enjoy our first Saturday out of the house, by ourselves, in nearly two years! I have to say that when I was picturing our staycation, all the things we might do, what we might see and where we might go I never once pictured myself at a pub wearing rubber boots. But there I was, happy as a clam wearing my rubber boots on my Saturday night date. Side Note: I was not the only person at the pub with rubber boots on! haha

Even with the rain, we had a great staycation in Miramichi! We will certainly be back, likely with Little Dude in tow to check out everything we missed (and probably do more shopping...)

Rodd Miramichi River Hotel - Miramichi, NB

Rodd Miramichi River Hotel - Miramichi, NB

The Mr. and I had been trying to plan a vacation get-a-way for just the two of us for nearly 2 years and, well... it just didn't seem to be working out! So, like all good business people we applied the KISS method (Keep It Simple Stupid) and came to the conclusion that a stay-cation is exactly what we needed. It would provide us with some alone time away from home, but yet be close enough that we wouldn't need to arrange for time off work or require any extreme babysitting services from family members.

When we started narrowing down the places to test out for our first stay-cation Miramichi, NB kept shooting to the top of the list. And so, we went to Miramichi!

With very few plans for the weekend the only thing we knew was that we would want to stay somewhere nice; somewhere that if we decided not even to leave the hotel it wouldn't matter because the hotel was so nice enough it felt like we should "just stay in". The Rodd Miramichi River was a shoe in.

Mom Break 30 - the kick in the butt I needed

I think it's pretty safe to say that we are all busy... it doesn't matter your walk of life, what you do all day or who you do it with - we are all BUSY! My exercise routine has certainly taken a back seat since I have returned to work from maternity leave and Mom Break 30 is just the kick in the butt I needed.
Mom Break 30 - the kick in the butt I needed
First of all...
WHAT IS MOM BREAK 30?!

Mom Break 30 is a fitness challenge, with giveaways every day in the month of May, designed specifically for moms. All workouts are under 10 minutes, can be done without any equipment, and from ANYWHERE.

Erica has a great video explaining the concept in only 2 minutes:
And, the videos will all stay online even after the month of May. so if you miss a day (or a few days like me) you can go back and start again in June, July, August, etc.

WHY PARTICIPATE?
If you are anything like me you pull yourself out of bed in the morning at the latest possible minute before getting yourself, baby and sometimes the Mr. ready to head out for the day. Once everyone is at work/daycare you work like a crazy person because you can't stay the extra 20 minutes at the end of the day like you used to be able to. Then you rush to daycare, get home, throw something together for dinner, have play time, bath time, books and bedtime for the little one. Then it's about 8:30pm (in my case at least) and the though of doing an hour long workout is daunting. Mom Break 30 is the perfect little workout to get your heart rate up, burn a few calories and end the day on a high note knowing that in the whole day you at least took 10 minutes to do something for YOU!

The intention of Mom Break 30 is not really to bring moms together - but in my case it has made me reconnect with a few of my mom friends on a daily basis via group Facebook chat where we are getting updates from each other, complaining about how out of shape we all are, cheering each other on and knowing that doing even a 10 minute workout a day can be a challenge with life sometimes getting "in the way". It's like anything in life... it's all about the effort.

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?
I know the name is Mom Break 30 and the workouts are designed for moms...but the workouts are perfect for ANYONE!

So, here we go!
Put your favorite yoga pants on, a little extra deodorant and hop to it :)

Be sure to follow Mom Break 30 so you don't miss a thing on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube

Bolla Pinot Grigio

Bolla Pinot Grigio Name: Bolla
Varietal: Pinot Grigio
Country: Italy
Vintage: 2015
Price: $15.99

Why did I decide to try this wine? The Mr. doesn't typically do the wine shopping, but last weekend he decide to give it a whirl. He bought two bottles hoping they were ones we had never tried before (his memory is not the best when it comes to this stuff...). It worked out in his favour because we hadn't tried either! This was the first one we tried.

Would I prefer one glass or indulge in the bottle? Glass. It was actually better the more you drank, but it's not one I would rush to purchase again.

What shoes would I wear drinking this wine? Plain, beige flats. Basically there was nothing exciting about this wine - similar to these shoes. They get the job done, are practical and not that bad, but overall you wouldn't typically rush out to buy them.

How would I describe the wine? According to the bottle it has aromas of peach, melon, pear and lime. This is not what I smelled... in my note book I wrote "smells like clams with a hint of pear". So I am thinking that I was either craving seafood or there is something wrong with my nose, haha. At least I had the pear part right though... I do stand by what I smelled and would say that this wine would actually go very well with oysters, clams or mussels as it was dry with a bit of a sparkle to it.

Mother's Day & Father's Day {Gifts Simplified}

Mother's Day & Father's Day {Gifts Simplified}

Last year was my first Mother's Day and it gave me the opportunity to reflect and appreciate Mother's Day for what it is really all about rather than thinking about it as a Hallmark Holiday... like Valentine's Day...

I put all kinds of pressure on myself every year to come up with the perfect gift for my Mom and the Mr.'s Mom - I actually really love buying gifts however. I love finding something I think the person will love, seeing their reaction when they open it and feeling like I helped make someone feel appreciated. Mother's Day and Father's Day gifts are the ones I struggle with every year though... so I turned to an expert for advice.
