Lakeway Houseboat Vacations {A Unique New Brunswick Experience}

Lakeway Houseboat Vacations {A Unique New Brunswick Experience}

All Aboard!
We wanted to do something different, something unique and something local. When I heard about Lakeway Houseboat Vacations my first thought was that it was a vacation idea that you wouldn't expect to be available in New Brunswick, but once you realize that it is you can't help but be on board with the idea!
Lakeway Houseboat Vacations {A Unique New Brunswick Experience}
I mentioned the idea to one of my besties last summer and we set the planning in motion, after all gathering up a group of people to spend the weekend on a houseboat always takes some coordination. with everyone's busy schedules.

We ended up having a fantastic weekend and experienced all kinds of weather so I think we really had a full experience even though it was only three days. The first day it rained, the second day was sunny and beautiful and the third day was sunny but extremely windy. We thought that being on board in the rain would be terrible, but it wasn't bad at all actually - the BBQ was under a canopy and it's fun to be in a hot tub regardless of the weather, right?!

Having a great time, rain or shine!
One of the biggest considerations I think everyone needs to make before booking this type of trip is who you will go with. Keep in mind you are in relatively tight living quarters for the duration of your trip... this is the ideal time to spend with your easy going friends who can quite literally go with the flow. Oh, and someone needs to be the Captain so make sure at least one person in your group has their boating license! Fun fact: My brother and I both have a boating license.

Camping on Water
I don't usually like camping, but camping on water is an entirely different experience. Other than bringing your bedding, towels and food with you it is as close to a hotel experience as you could hope for without boarding a cruise ship of some kind. Everything you need is on the boat, in fact we were worried about what to bring, what not to bring and we shouldn't have been worried at all! At the end of this post I have included a packing list for you to make your life as easy as possible and so you don't have the same questions as we had when you are planning your houseboat vacation.

And, since pictures are great but a full tour is even better I did a video tour of our boat so you can have a quick watch and see exactly what to expect on your houseboat, the layout, etc.
Consideration... We were on a 14 person boat, which in my opinion would be perfect for 10 people. Everyone would have a bedroom (2 per bedroom) in that case and you wouldn't have to use the main living area for sleeping. That said, if the extra 4 people were kids, having them sleep in the main areas wouldn't be a big deal at all.

Toddler's Favorite YouTube Videos

Yes, you read the title correctly... whether we like to admit it or not almost all toddlers watch YouTube videos nowadays. And, like us, they have their favorites.

After many meals of Little Dude not eating, playing with his food and being down right impossible The Mr. discovered that if he watched a video while eating not only would he eat his whole meal, but he would eat foods that we couldn't even get him to try before! I'm sure there are better solutions to picky eaters, but this worked for us. And now... I am happy to report Little Dude will now eat many more things - without watching videos every time!

As a bit of a side note, and for the record, I feel I should tell you that Little Dude watches videos outside of meal time and I am ok with that as long as it's not the only thing he does... I'm a big believer in balance - everything is good as long as it's not taken out of proportion. If you let your kids watch videos all the time, or don't let them watch at all - I support your decision. There really is no right or wrong answer, only what works for you and your family.

All that said and without further delay, here are
Little Dude's top 6 YouTube picks:

This Little Light of Mine - Listener Kids

Power Shuffle - Lifetree Kids

If all the raindrops were lemondrops and gumdrops - Barney

My God is Powerful - Lifetree Kids

Jesus loves me - Listener Kids

Castle On The Hill - Ed Sheeran (what can I say, the kid likes variety!)

Why we travelled Canada first

When I was 10 I went on the trip of a lifetime. It wasn't just any old family vacation - it was an experience that my parents wanted to give us with the hopes that it would give us an appreciation for our country. To say they were successful is an understatement

Be sure to stick around at the end of the post to check out all of my fellow blogger's Canadian experiences/crafts/ideas in celebration of Canada 150.

My Dad has said for as long as I can remember that we should see our own country first. Growing up in Canada this is no small task, but one we have all tried to accomplish. I am missing Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Yukon and North West Territories while my brother and sister made it to Manitoba, but missed Nunavut. Not bad for three kids (now young adults) from a rural community in northern New Brunswick right?!

My 5 favorite blog posts {1 Year Blogiversary Celebration}

My 5 favorite blog posts {1 Year Blogiversary Celebration}

Taking the time to go back through what I have written over the past year while celebrating my 1 year blogiversary has been kinda fun... I have to admit there are some posts I even forgot all about! There were some the stuck out to me as clear favorites though for one reason or another and here they are:

DIY Paper Pinwheels
My 5 favorite blog posts {1 Year Blogiversary Celebration}
Seriously, how amazing are these?! I don't have the heart to take the whole decoration apart and so it is still together in my Mama's basement (Thanks Mom!!) ready for the next party. They are super easy to make and have a huge impact... my kind of DIY!

Le tour du Mont-Albert
My 5 favorite blog posts {1 Year Blogiversary Celebration}

Everything about this hike was crazy. We completely underestimated how challenging it would be to climb a mountain with Little Dude on the Mr.'s back (I took very few turns...). That said, it made for a great story to tell and we want to go back this year! Maybe without Little Dude though...

Gabbiano Promessa Pinot Grigio
My 5 favorite blog posts {1 Year Blogiversary Celebration}

When you find a good wine and buy it over and over and over it's worth mentioning. This has become a "go-to" for my brother, his wife and I. In fact it will even be served at my former boss' retirement party later this month. It's good, inexpensive and has a fun label - you can't go wrong!

How to Prepare Baby for Daycare
My 5 favorite blog posts {1 Year Blogiversary Celebration}

I have always wanted to have a post that other Moms would say "oh, you need that post from is so helpful!" and this was it! This was one of the hardest pots to write but it was also the most helpful (or at least I assume it was). To all of you who thanked me and to who of you who will (I know some of you haven't needed this post yet, but you will!) - thanks for making my day! I loved hearing about how useful you found this post and was so happy to have made your life a teeny tiny bit easier.

Last but not least... the very first post I wrote and the inspiration for writing this blog to begin with:
Weeknights at Hotels
My 5 favorite blog posts {1 Year Blogiversary Celebration}

This was the day that I really realized how much my perspective had shifted from pre-motherhood to motherhood. Knowing that I wasn't alone in this situation and yet I had noone to really tell about it I started There's a Shoe for That. I might have gotten carried away... haha

Which post is your favorite so far?

Blogiversary Celebration {There's a Shoe for That turns 1!}

Blogiversary Celebration {There's a Shoe for That turns 1!}
A year of blogging is in the books (or "on the line" as Billy would say) already! Part of me still doesn't believe that I even hit the "publish" button to begin with. And now, there are more than 80 posts published on There's a Shoe for That and many more in the works... what a journey it has been so far.
Blogiversary Celebration {There's a Shoe for That turns 1!}

My blogiversary has given me reason to reflect on what my original goals were for this blog and why I wanted to start writing it to begin with... and has provided for a great excuse to get an Ice Cream Cake to celebrate! To celebrate I have 4 awesome prizes that you can win by entering the giveaway contest at the bottom of this post as a "Thank You" for taking this walk with me.
